I drew this in pencil as an underdrawing not knowing I had a pastel drawing underneath. The backside got some cool colors and texture. I reversed it in photoshop because it was backwards.
Did a quick pastel of Alan Ginsberg. Thought about using my pen linework in my pastel drawings by blowing up small ink drawings, and preserving the line work with pastels.
First assignment from this summers Illustration Academy. Goal was to focus on shape, value, and color to design a picture. no rendering, no detail. Hers my take at it.
Here's a little fix up on this piece. I desaturated the ceiling and background colors and also brought the values closer together. Also darkened and desaturated the stage.
I decided today that I want to learn pastels, so I'm going to be doing a lot of them in my spare time. mostly portraits, but maybe other stuff. Ill try to put one out a day.
Been away from this blog for a while now, Im almost done scanning in all the sketchbook stuff I did over the summer. They will be up soon as well as the paintings/illustrations from the summer.
